MOBAC Reference Meeting Minutes

August 26, 2014 Watsonville Public Library

Call to Order : Kris Amaral

Approval of Minutes – June 24, 2014

Public Comments: none

Reports:

Admin council: has tasked the tech committee with reviewing the technology tools available to MOBAC through member libraries and the usefulness of taping workshops.

                Tech Committee – Is working on a plan for their next workshop.

                ILL Committee- Has a new procedures manual on the MOBAC website

SPLAMBA – Will return to monthly meetings, has developed an anti-bullying booklist.

Old Business:

Reference Committee workshops for PLP update – tabled until next meeting

Output Measures/Technology discussions in state statistics – The group had a discussion regarding the increasing number of technology questions reference librarians are answering and the confusion about including these in statistics.  There is a wide variety among libraries in regards to how these questions are addressed in reference statistics. It was suggested that this committee ask the admin council to make a request to the state to modify the statistics libraries are asked to collect.

Core Competencies for Reference Staff – MCFL shared their core competency documents and the process they went through to create them. 

New Business:

Reviewing Services Survey on website – Georg Romero is heading a committee to review the content of the survey, standardize the process for updating the information, and determine the best the format in which to share the information.  Jean Chapin and Heather Geddes will be on a subcommittee which will gather input from the reference committee before providing admin council with a report.

Annual Report – Group members provided information to be included in the annual report.

Planning Reference workshop for October -  The Future of Reference workshop will be on Oct 17, location TBD. There will be presentations on Hoopla, Pinterest, Zip Books.  Possibly there will be presentations on core competencies and reference instruction techniques, these topics may be held over until a Spring workshop.  Laurie, Inga, and Be will make up the committee this year.
